OM PARAMATMANEYA NAMAHA Prologue: To Vyasa’s poetic genius, I humbly bow For penning this sacred text several thousand years ago Under the leaves, composed this great mystic In a Divine language- both rhythmic and cryptic 2,00,000 verses of Mahabharata for us he disclosed Meditating on the First Great War, this epic he composed A mighty story of “The Empire” painted in esoteric hues With Hindu secrets progressively cloaked by symbolic clues Portraying the mighty battle of darkness & light, Through the oracle’s eyes we saw the Kuru princes’ fight A stunning evolution of weaponry and technology was portrayed To the world an Ancient Bharat was grandiosely displayed The High philosophy of Dharma recollected the sage When every other spiritual tradition had not even come of age. Unveiling the voice of the manifestation divine- Krishna Who taught the best amongst men the Law of Karma Revealing the secrets of what was before birth And the occult knowledge of what transpires after death Of the play of forces that aid and impair the journey of the soul Of the Way of life to attain moksha-the final goal. Of how the Ultimate realization can be attained in this birth itself Of living a sorrow-free life –dwelling in the state of the awakened “Self” Resonating the promise of Krishna to the whole of mankind Of returning in an age when those who see choose to be blind! To awaken the divine consciousness on the human side To uphold all that is right and to once more turn the tide! ~~~~~~||~~~~~~ Invocation of Saraswati ~~~~~~||~~~~~~ I invoke the Mother- Saraswati, the source of Vyasa’s inspiration Guide my words too, Help me fulfill my aspiration The sacred Sanskrit text, I attempt sincerely to translate- Krishna’s Voice in a foreign tongue I seek to replicate ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hymn to Krishna I call upon Sri Krishna, the one with the bamboo flute The dreamy eyed Avatar- a figure so Divine and yet so cute Whose very thought set the Gopikas into an intoxicated dance, Even to this day your name sends your countless lovers into a Trance Several Centuries ago were we graced by your golden aura, So beautiful you are, your majesty- our usher of the future era. Kaliyuga’s darkest cloak our earth has now worn, O Love, Will you not return once more as you had sworn? Your sacred homeland is now no more the same- Our brother’s immoral actions make us bend down in shame Man’s greed and lust today reign supreme – He has become too deaf to hear nature scream, Exclusive religions and preachers are destroying spirituality Fueling hate, they are spreading discord and animosity What were we once, and what have we become – O Krishna, the time is now ripe for you to once more come. Our world begs for a Divine teacher to once more descend To turn the Karmic wheel for everyone to ascend. With folded hands I bequeath our Krishna, our beloved, our God With your resplendent words awaken us and reside within, my Lord- _/|\_ With these simple words the immortal epic’s translation I have now begun- It’s golden words shall breathe as long as the fire burns in the Eye of the sun.
