ON PRIESTS & HALLOWEEN : First of all let me tell you I have always disliked Halloween, as I usually dislike our more traditional Carnival (before Lent). I have never liked masked balls, wearing fancy costumes or dressing up: disguise of any sort is my abhorrence, in fact. I find all that fuss just a way to speculate and make money (same happens at Christmas, Easter, Valentines Day and so on, you know). But can I for once defend what I usually criticize? Well, I know that may not sound coherent. Ill try to justify my incoherence, just be patient and go on reading , please. I went to church with my mother today for my late fathers monthly anniversary. The (young) priest celebrating the holy Mass started preaching against the dangers of celebrating Halloween. His words! ... a festival for worshippers of the lord of darkness, the devil himself. We must defend our children from this very dangerous festival,we must pray for their souls tonight, its not harmeless fun, it is letting them meet with the devil himself. You know, there are even teachers who promote this kind of fun among children in schools ... . I really felt like standing up and go away. I didnt do that just because of my mother. Im not exaggerating, those were his words. I was stunned, shocked. I am not a regular church-goer but, maybe, it is time to convert to buddism if this is what is left of Christianity. As much as I hate Halloween, I beg you, please, let our children be free to enjoy some healthy fun with their peers. There are worse demons out there! Hence, Happy Halloween, everyone!
