ON THE NFL ISSUE! We supported O.J. with good reasons and we can - TopicsExpress

ON THE NFL ISSUE! We supported O.J. with good reasons and we can go back to Muhammad Ali, Jack Johnson etc, we always tend to defend our own when we sense its a racial issue. The latest in the news is Jonathan Dwyer of the Cardinals for allegedly head butting his wife. Our first instinct is to jump to his defense as with Ray Rice, Adrian Peterson, etc. There is no doubt that racism plays a part in all these media revelations if for no other reason than in amerikkka everything is infused with racism/ white supremacy. But wait a minute, are we supposed to knee-jerk jump to the defense of rich athletes who beat on women and children just because theyre one of us? Is it that simple an issue? Im the product of a home where my mother was abused and i cannot defend any mofo that does this to women and children. Especially ( though not only) because im wondering how many of these rich Black athletes give back, in a real way, to their communities? How many of these dudes speak up on the issues such as the Mike Brown issue? How many contribute to the Black struggle? How many are contributing right now to the struggle in Ferguson? And after we got O.J. off, what thanks did we get? There are a lot of questions and a lot of opinions but i think that sooner or later we will have to hold ourselves accountable for our actions not only in relation to our loved ones but also in relation to the Black liberation struggle. In other words, for me, and especially when it comes to these high profile and rich personalities, it cant just be about the white man jumpin on your ass, it also has to be about what your relation is to Black liberation.
