What appears to have been a drinking bout at Korumburra on June 1, in which three men participated, had a fatal termination on June 3, when John Jones, a labourer, aged 43 years, died at the Melbourne Hospital. Jones was found to be suffering from a fractured vertebrae, which had caused paralysis to set in. He expired a few hours after his admission to the hospital. The Coroner to-day conducted an inquiry into the circumstances connected with Jones death. In consequence of a statement made by the deceased to Constable Johnson, John Nolan attended the inquest in the custody of the police. The Coroner recorded a verdict that the deceased died from a broken neck, the result of a fall at Korumburra on June 1. The fall, he added, was due to a blow unlawfully and feloniously struck by John Nolan, whom he found guilty of manslaughter, Nolan was committed for trial.
