ONCE AGAIN........I am EXTREMELY disappointed with EqualityMaine and their new/current fundraising effort. It was put out there, after the marriage equality bill passed in 2012, that transgender issues would become one of the top priorities for Equality Maine to stand up for (FINALLY). Yet TODAY..........I just got a nice call from a pleasant young man with an almost persuasive argument about fighting a religious push to neutralize some of the marriage equality components. AT NO POINT were transgender people even alluded to as being even nominally affected by this new challenge; as though we dont exist for the purposes of the new effort. WHICH LEAVES ME WONDERING.........How long were going to have to sit at the bus stop waiting for another bus (EQ Maine) to pick us up for the party. I was there in the early days of the marriage equality fight; it seemed important to stand with LGBs, IN SOLIDARITY, and to make their fight my fight. But now its 19 years later ad after many missteps, its ostensibly a done deal. Except it isnt. And todays phone call leads me to believe that EQ Maine STILL doesnt multi-task their socio-political issues roster well at all and that transgender rights are NOT ON THEIR RADAR AS VITAL. So the short answer to the question I got on the phone is this: NO........YOU DONT GET ANY (MORE) OF MY MONEY, mostly because representing MY best social justice issues as a transgender woman seems to be a vague, non-descript, and fragmented hobby rather than a genuine and pressing concern.
