ONE MONTH AFTER KALACHAKRA- AN INTROSPECTION! Some of you may - TopicsExpress

ONE MONTH AFTER KALACHAKRA- AN INTROSPECTION! Some of you may know that for more than a year I have been raising the issue of an anti-corruption pledge before HH the Dalai Lama’s Kalachakra teachings this year. The public pledge never happened but today it is a month after the Kalachakra event and it is time for us to introspect as to what has changed in our lives after we spent all the money and all the time attending the teachings. Do you see any marked changes in how our young men, women and monks behave in streets? Have you noticed a marked reduction in the bribery and corruption that happens in our government offices? Have you heard that our teachers have become more dedicated now, our businessmen are more trustworthy now, our politicians are more selfless and our monks and nuns are more compassionate and detached from the worldly traps? If the answer is ‘YES’ then… Congratulations! If it’s a ‘No’ for each of the questions then it is time to reflect and still try to salvage …. Otherwise the whole event would become a big waste of money and the precious time of a spiritual leader like HH Dalai Lama. I am sure many of you may ask me ‘What about you, what has changed in you?’ Well, first of all I have never believed that a magic called ‘Kalachakra empowerment’ could change everything for us in this life or the next… unless each one of us learns to take good care of our own actions. I did not even attend the ceremonies at Jiveytsal although I was happy to hear that they were very well organised. Firstly it was because I thought I was not yet qualified to take such high oaths and empowerments. Secondly, I am generally unable to blindly accept or memorise teachings unless I can understand and experience them… this holds true for Kalachakra, just as it did for my science lessons in High School. But deep inside I have great respect for HH the Dalai Lama and of course for the teachings of the Buddha. And therefore last month when everyone was in Choglamsar, I decided to stay back to work on myself and pledge to bring some changes in my own self. Here are some of them: That I will re-dedicate my life for the cause of those who need my help, including humans as well as nature. That I will definitely not engage in any form of corrupt practices and nor shall I stay silent when others do so, especially when it affects the lives of the weak and voiceless. That from this Kalachakra I will try and reach the next level of detachment and will try and reduce personal belongings to just two pairs of clothes, few personal effects and some tools of work. That I will re-double my resolve to never own any property such as land, houses, cars etc. and will keep a bank balance enough only to see me through emergencies and illnesses, without disturbing others. That I shall work on dissolving my own ego; I shall seek forgiveness from those who I might have hurt knowingly or unknowingly and similarly I will forgive all those who may have hurt me knowingly or unknowingly. I may differ with people in ideologies but there will be no one I could call an enemy. I seek moral and spiritual support and strength from all of you my friends to succeed in keeping these pledges. I hope I am not alone and there are others among you all who will also join me on some of these pledges. Only when something actually changes in our lives will we have valued and honoured the efforts and time of HH the Dalai Lama this summer. I am sure mere number of people gathered and amount of money spent on an event cannot impress enlightened ones. Thanks.
