ONE MORE WIDOW, GOV. ADAMS There is still one widow for whom Gov. Adams still has to do the needful. The widow of Comrade Chima Ubani, one of the most committed, honest and patriotic guys l ever met. In 2005, when Obasanjo as usual, was trying to increase fuel price, the NLC in conjunction with the civil society commenced a nationwide Mobilisation and sensitization against the u just policy. Chima traversed various parts of the country, along with the then NLC president, Adams Oshiomhole until they got to Maiduguri. After they were through in Maiduguri, they got to the airport. Chima was occupied the last seat. Adams had no seat on the plane. Chima had to volunteer his seat for Adams, saying he would travel back by road. He entered the official SUV of Adams numbered NLC 1, along with Tunji Oyeleru, the photo Editor of Vanguard, who accompanied them on the trip. Before they got to Potiskum, they had an accident and Chima and Tunji died on the spot. Chima left a wife and four children, two of who are sicklers. After the burial of Chima, Adams literary left the widow in the colds. Thank God for Asiwaju Tinubu, who as Governor of Lagos state provided the necessary succor to the family. When Asiwaju got to Chimas house, and seen the sparsely furnished sitting room with no generator, he asked Dele Alake if that was actually Chimas house. When he replied in the affirmative, he first directed that a generator be procured for the house and gave the widow a little more. He went ahead to donate a house each for the widows of Chima and Oyeleru. He also gave scholarship to two out of the four children. Not even Orji Uzor Kalu, who was Governor of Chimas Abia state tried to do anything. Adams, more or less abandoned the family. I know the challenges the widow faces today to sponsor the two other kids who are SS but it would not have been too much for Adams even as Governor to give little jobs for the widow, whose husband sacrificed his life for Nigerians. I am not suggesting that Adams should dip his hands in the States till and dash the woman, but if he could not help as NLC president, he should as a Governor. Even as NLC president, Adams was not a poor labour leader. He could still have assisted the family. I am aware that before he became a governor, Adams had a gigantic edifice of a house at the high-brow Maitama district of Abuja. I know the house. No poor man has a property in Maitama. This is not to denigrate Adams but a call on him to still do the needful for Chimas widow, while we commend him for what he did for the Benin go and die widow.
