ONGOING INCIDENT: We are currently in attendance at a road traffic collision on the A50 eastbound, at its junction with Grindley Lane. We were called to the scene just after 6am this morning following the report of the collision, which involved a HGV and a car (Ford Mondeo) towing a caravan. The eastbound carriageway remains closed and is likely to be for some time as all vehicles are recovered. Traffic is being diverted in the area but there are long delays. The four occupants of the Ford Mondeo have been taken to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire. Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. The lorry driver is uninjured. As a result of the collision the caravan has been completely destroyed. Police officers were joined by colleagues from the fire and ambulance services at the scene. Highways Agency staff and vehicle recovery personnel are also in attendance. An investigation to understand the circumstances of the collision will now take place. Witnesses are asked to contact us on 101 quoting incident 83 of Sept 1. Please avoid this area as much as possible this morning as long delays are expected.
