ONLY GOD FORGIVES (2013) It’s a massively experimental film that crosses the borders between beautiful and utterly strange. The first 20 mins are stunning but difficult to watch with vivid reds in every scene. Full of innuendo and metaphors it at times becomes too much like a piece of art rather than a film. Gosling as usual is magnetic and in this character he plays a dangerous yet vulnerable drug dealer who has more than a few mummy issues to deal with. Weird, mesmerising, frustrating and memorable all wrapped into one. The key for me is that despite being disappointed in the cinema. I’ve been left wanting a second viewing. 3.5 STARS
