OOOOWWWWWW! Having spent all last week worrying about Eddie and making sure he wasnt overdoing things, I ended up down in A&E at Airedale yesterday. Never my favourite place. My left eye had started to water badly on Friday night and I thought it was just because I was really tired. So I bathed it and went to bed. However, work up on Saturday morning and my eye was all sore and swollen and I couldnt get it to open properly. Rang doctor, but no emergency service available. Went to pharmacy to see about eyedrops to cool it but she said to ring 111 helpline. They eventually (after answering a weird range of unrelated questions - no I hadnt fallen and all my limbs were intact...) said I should go to A&E within an hour as it sounded urgent! I explained that I was probably more than an hour away but they said there was no emergency doctor nearer... At A&E I waited for nearly 3 hours to be told I should have gone there immediately as it could have been urgent... before they finally decided it was very sore and swollen. (Something I already knew - and without training to be a doctor!). Eventually they put drops in to anaethetise it so they could look at it and said it had probably been scratched, told me to take paracetmol and gave me the same cream I could have purchased at the chemist and concluded that if it was still sore on Monday to get my doctor to refer me back... There are times when I seriously wonder about the NHS!!!!! Anyway, still taking the paracetmol, putting on the cream and avoiding sunlight. At least I slept last night and eventually managed to get it open today...
