OPEN FOR DISCUSSIONS ................................................................................ Marked hard plaque (tartar) and floating teeth due to severe periodontal disease Case contributed by: Dr Chris ODonnell . Presentation: Loose molar teeth and localized pain. Very poor dental hygiene. . Patient Data: Age: 45 Gender: Female Race: Indian/Pakistani Dense material surrounding the teeth is typical of the hard plaque or tartar that builds up around the teeth especially in those with poor dental hygiene. Note there is no associated caries ie this tartar tends to protect against such disease but also promotes severe gingivitis and periodontal disease leading to gross resorption of alveolar bone and resultant floating teeth.
