OPEN LETTER FROM VIKRAM DESAI THE UTD FAN - WHATS YOUR VIEW? Dear Sports Bloke, Happy New Year! Here we are on another year into the world of football. What is the future of Louis Van Gaal and my beloved Manchester Utd? We sit in 4th with the same number of points as we had last season under Mr. Moyes, yet we are a success this year and failure the previous? Let me talk about LVG and my opinion of him. I believe he is a good manager but disagree with his ideologies regarding Manchester United adapting to his philosophies. His belief of the 3-5-2/5-3-2 system or whatever way you want to play it, the formation is very unlike Utd. Its not built for the modern game. As Gary Neville who I believe is the best pundit in world football said; this is very unlike Manchester United. Against Soton and many other teams this formation has caused Utd to look like a mess. Its a very slow European style formation, something thats come from Italy where the defenders build the attack but with this formation you can fall into a trap where the ball goes from one wing back to the centre back and back across to the other wing back without ever penetrating the midfield thus making your attack very easy and predictable to play against. Man Utd should never be predictable. The issue with Utd in the last two years has always been simple. The lack of physical, aggressive, technical defensive midfielders. In the modern game the formation to play and be successful in the premier league is the 4-2-3-1. Mourinho has shown this on numerous occasions. Utd have not got any top defensive midfield players. Without even thinking hard I can name some players man Utd should have/get in this transfer window. Sven bender- borussia Dortmund Lars bender- bayer Leverkusen Morgan schneiderlein- soton Footballs a simple game and all about balance. Like Mourinho quotes: the pieces of wood hold the roof of my team so that the kids can go out and play. The foundation is the most important part see Matic and Fabregas. So LVG be smart, do what you should do and go out and buy some top quality holding midfield players, adapt the formation so that our best player the Angel can go out and play with the Robin. Reinforce the fact that we are the biggest franchise in world football and that the Madrids, barcas, Bayerns etc will fear coming to the theatre of dreams and having their worst nightmare come true.
