OPENS: 7/14/14 CLOSES: 7/28/14 ANNOUNCEMENT: 1166230 TOUR OF DUTY: This is a full-time position, rotating shifts PRIMARY DUTY LOCATION: Community Living Center 14B, Loch Raven, VA Maryland Health Care System, MD. INCENTIVES: Relocation Expenses, and/or recruitment/Relocation incentives are not authorized for this position. OVERVIEW: At least one position exists in the Community Living Center, 14B, (25-bed unit) Geriatrics Extended Care Service Line, at the Perry Point Medical Center. The nurse functions interdependently in carrying out the nursing process, nursing orders, policies and procedures as they relate to the patients plan of care. The nurse collaborates with other members of the interdisciplinary treatment team in planning, developing, and coordinating the care for the patients and their family. The nurse is accountable to the Nurse Manager. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: - Minimum two year’s professional nursing experience in Geriatrics and Extended Care is required. - BLS certification required. GRADE DETERMINATIONS: Experience as a RN will be evaluated by the Nurse Professional Standards Board to determine if the experience is of an acceptable level of quality with regard to the following four dimensions of nursing: Practice, Professional Development, Collaboration and Scientific Inquiry. Each dimension of practice has criteria that demonstrate essential core competencies for VHA Nursing Personnel. The criteria are as follows: • Practice: practice, ethics and resource utilization; • Professional Development: performance, education/career development; • Collaboration; collaboration, collegiality; • Scientific Inquiry: quality of care, research. Physical Requirements: It is VA policy to ensure that all selected applicants and employed personnel are physically, mentally and emotionally fit to perform the duties of the position to which assigned. A pre-placement physical examination is required for all full-time, part-time and intermittent employees identified by VA Directive and Handbook 5019. The pre-placement physical examination shall be completed prior to appointment to determine the physical and mental fitness for candidates for appointment in VA. The examination will be concerned with the mental and physical ability of the applicant to satisfactorily perform the duties of the proposed assignment and will include requisite laboratory and other screening as required by Federal regulatory agencies. This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. This position requires potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, pulling, and pushing. Transferring patients and objects may be required. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations or operative/invasive procedures. The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. The incumbent must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations, able to shift priorities based on patient needs. Must complete annual Employee Health requirements, such as annual TB screening or testing, as a condition of employment.
