ORGUT SIGNS CONTRACT FOR UNNATI, INCLUSIVE GROWTH PROGRAMME IN NEPAL ORGUT has signed a 48.3 Mill. DKK contract with Danida for the five-year Management Contract of UNNATI, Inclusive Growth Programme in Nepal in consortium with Nathan Associates London and Hifab International. The programme will be implemented at national level, but with focus on seven districts in the Eastern Development Region of Nepal. The programme focuses on support to the private sector, and to local government through the Department of Local Infrastructure Development and Agricultural Roads (DoLIDAR) and the District Development Committees (DCs) in the programme districts. The budget for the overall programme is DKK 400 million for the five-year period, equivalent to approximately USD 70 million. The budget allocation is expected to strengthen market-based inclusive growth that reduces poverty and raises living of standards. The strategic focus of the programme will be on private sector development in compliance with Danida’s strategy for support to growth and employment. The private sector will be a beneficiary and also an implementing partner. The public sector is expected to play an important role in terms of setting national objectives, policies and plans; carrying out improvements to key infrastructure; providing the regulatory frameworks; and creating an enabling environment for the private sector to contribute efficiently and effectively to inclusive growth and employment creation. The overall objective of the programme is “Promotion of sustainable inclusive growth that reduces poverty and raises living standards”. To achieve the above objectives, the programme will support three components: C1: The Value Chain Component comprises two sub-components: 1.1: Commercialisation of Selected Value Chains and 1.2: Access to Finance; C2: The Infrastructure Component comprises two sub-components 2.1: Rural Transport Infrastructure and 2.2: Public Market-Related Infrastructure; and C3: The Enabling Environment Component comprises two sub-components 3.1: Public-Private Partnership and 3.2: Advocacy for Rights and Good Corporate Governance. ORGUT will manage the implementation of sub-component 1.1 Commercialisation of Selected Value Chains, and the entire Infrastructure Component. The three components are interlinked with the Value Chain Component as the core of the programme. The Infrastructure Component will support development of infrastructure to improve the performance of the strategic value chains supported through the Value Chain Component. Advocacy, policy and regulatory issues identified by the Value Chain Component and the Infrastructure Component will be addressed by the Enabling Environment Component. PRINT
