#OSA2014 was a success on so many levels, kudos to the leadership and the organizers(DMV Oromo never disappoint) In between responsibilities with OMN I was able to attend some insightful presentations by distinguished scholars and leaders varying from young Amane Badhaso to the retired Abba Gadaa Aga Xanxano. It was refreshing to see not only distinguished guests the likes of professors Asmerom Leggese and Beyene Petros as well as writer Tesfaye Gebreab but also medias who normally dont report on Oromo matters. The latter could be interpreted in many ways but I like to believe that it is due to OMNs exemplary efforts to reach out to different segments of society both through fair and balanced reporting as well as using languages they understand. Our reach out will continue not just to teach others to follow suit but because it is our duty to inform and serve indiscriminately. The most most important panel, according to exiting president Dr. Ibrahim, was that among the Oromo political organizations, which is a rarity. Whether the audience and the public at large got the answers it wanted remains to be seen but the effort should be applauded and I hope that these conversations continue public or private. It was eactly a year ago that we learned the graduation of young Oromos such as current OSA president Jawar Mohammed to senior leadership positions and I expressed my delight then. OSA have shown that their move was not just a mere gesture but a serious one by electing yet again young leaders such as Henok Gabisa (President Elect) and Ayantu Tibesso (Secretary) among others. My happiness is two fold: one that the youth is stepping up but most important is that the seniors have shown full trust. My message to the young leaders is to pay back for the trust and faith by the elders and the community at large through hard work and personal example. I am confident that you will exceed expectations and push the ceiling higher to borrow a phrase from Tesfaye Gebreab. Congratulations also to the outstading award winners. It is a pity that we were not able to live broadcast the event but in the coming weeks you will be able to watch and learn from many of the scholars and guests on OMN. Stay tuned! OMN is also covering OSFNAs week long soccer and other events, which we have already begun live streaming. At the same time we are also selling beautiful merchandises that you can buy for yourselves or your loved ones. The water bottle and key chains are my favorites. Enjoy #OromoWeek festivities!
