#OSHA cites #Borger #drilling #company with 13 #violations Borger, TX - The U.S. Department of Labors Occupational Safety and Health Administration handed Spradling Drilling what it call serious saftey and health violations. A serious violation occurs when there is a substantial probability that death or serious physical harm could result from a hazard, which an employer knew or should have known about. OSHA received a complaint about unsafe working conditions at Spradlings Channing drilling site near Amarillo. After an inspection in August, the company now faces penalties totaling $46,200. OSHA said Spradling did not take effective measurements of stairwells at their drilling rig site, which led to missing handrails and inadequate metal stair treading to prevent fall hazards. The violations are also for failing to guard rotating parts of machinery that expose employees to electrical hazards by not having required outlet covers and improperly repaired electrical wiring. For health violations, OSHA cited Spradling for not providing showers and first-aid supplies to employees working with corrosive materials, such as soda ash. The company also failed to provide training on hydrogen sulfide. The employer is endangering employees by not eliminating safety and health hazards at its drill rig site, exposing workers to potential injuries or even death, said Elizabeth Linda Routh, OSHAs area director in Lubbock. Spradling now has 15 days to comply with the citations or contest them before the Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission. NewsChannel 10 reached out to the company today but they were not available for comment.
