OUR MISSION – (SABBATH SCHOOL LESSON) For Sabbath, August 30, 2014. Matthew 24:14 - “And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.” Our “Mission” is to take the true gospel to the whole world. The true gospel is about Jesus Christ who is the Savior, mans sin bearer. IF we are not connected with JESUS, the God who became human like us, we then have no gospel to take to the world – (Matthew 28:19). IF JESUS was not God, then He could not have become our Savior, and there would be no gospel to take. 1. JESUS IS THE SOURCE OF LIGHT – (Matthew 5:14-16). GOD is the source of light. And God said, “Let there be light, and there was light.” - Genesis 1:3. Since Jesus is God also, HE is the source of light. He was the ONE that spoke those words in Genesis 1:3. (Please read John 1:1-3, 14; Colossians 1:16-17). Ellen G. White says, “Christ lived and died as a man, that He might be GOD both of the living and of the dead.” - (Letter 97, 1898) ….. SDA Bible Commentary, volume 7, pages 926). Mrs. White says, “If Christ made all things, He existed before all things. The words spoken in regard to this are so decisive that no one need be left in doubt. CHRIST WAS GOD ESSENTIALLY, and in the highest sense. HE WAS WITH GOD FROM ALL ETERNITY, God over all, blessed forevermore. The Lord Jesus Christ, the divine Son of God, existed from eternity, A DISTINCT PERSON, yet one with the Father.” {Lift Him Up, p.16} … (Review and Herald, April 05, 1906). - SDA Bible Commentary, Volume 5, page 1126). In order for us to be a light to the world, we must be connected to the source of light which is JESUS CHRIST... HE is the light Himself – (John 8:12). We only get our light from Him. IF JESUS does not abide in us, we then have no light to the world. Though we may profess to have light, but there is darkness only. And darkness represents the devil because there is not truth in him for he is a LIAR – (John 8:44). 2. JESUS SENDS THE HOLY SPIRIT TO ENABLE US TO CARRY OUT THE MISSION The devil is a strong foe, and in order for us to take the gospel to the whole world, we needed a stronger power to help us overcome the enemy. IN this case, JESUS sends the Holy Spirit, “the third person of the Godhead” to be our assurance of victory over the enemy. Ellen G White, “Counsels on Health,” page, 222 says, “The Godhead was stirred with pity for the race, and the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit gave themselves to the working out of the plan of redemption.-- {SDA Bible Commentary, Volume 7, page 442. paragraph 1}. Ellen G. White, Evangelism, p.615 says, “There are three living persons of the heavenly trio; in the name of these three great powers--the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit--those who receive Christ by living faith are baptized, and these powers will co-operate with the obedient subjects of heaven in their efforts to live the new life in Christ.”-- {SDA Bible Commentary, volume 7, page 441.9} All three divine beings in heaven are interested in our taking of the true gospel so that the world is not only saved, but not deceived due to the devils lies. Once they are deceived, they can be lost. The three divine beings were interested in our victory over the devil. They work together to ensure that the true gospel is taken to the world through you. Mrs. White says this about the Holy Spirit in the book, “The Faith I Live By,” page 52, - “We need to realize that the Holy Spirit . . . is as much a person as God is a person.” 3. MAKE DISCIPLES FOR GOD The teaching is an important aspect to make disciples – (Matthew 28:19). We must teach the truth of the gospel. Jesus told us that these disciples (believers) are to be baptized in the name of : (i) THE FATHER; (II) THE SON (JESUS); and, (iii) THE HOLY GHOST. We are called to be a true witness of the gospel truth, empowered by the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Godhead. I would urge you to please take time to read these two quotes below by Mrs. White regarding the baptism in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Mrs. White says, “The vows which we make upon ourselves in baptism embrace much. In the name of THE FATHER, THE SON, AND THE HOLY SPIRIT we are buried in the likeness of Christ’s death and raised in the likeness of His resurrection, and we are to live a new life. ... The fact that you have been baptized in the name of the FATHER, THE SON, AND THE HOLY SPIRIT is an assurance that if you will claim THEIR help, THESE powers will help you in every emergency” - (Testimonies, vol. 6, pages 98,99). ….................................................................................... Mrs. White says, “Christ made baptism the entrance to His spiritual kingdom. He made this a positive condition with which all must comply who wish to be acknowledged as under the authority of THE FATHER, THE SON, AND THE HOLY GHOST. Those who receive the ordinance of baptism thereby become members of the royal family, children of the heavenly King. … THE FATHER, THE SON, THE HOLY GHOST, POWERS INFINITE AND OMNISCIENT, receive those who truly enter into covenant relation with God. THEY are present at every baptism, to receive the candidates who have renounced the world and have received Christ into the soul temple. These candidates have entered into THE FAMILY OFGOD, and their names are inscribed in the Lambs book of life.” - (SDA Bible Commentary, Volume 6, page 1075). …................................................................................. We just cannot afford to make wrong disciples with wrong doctrines of the gospel. The disciples are to be in “unity” which is ONE with the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit in faith and doctrine. I hope this brief summary of the Sabbath School Lesson is of help to whosoever. May God bless you all.
