OUR POSITION ON JUNE 21 EKITI GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION Consequent - TopicsExpress

OUR POSITION ON JUNE 21 EKITI GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION Consequent upon the conduct of the governorship election in Ekiti State by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on June 21, 2014, the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ekiti State Chapter, held a General Stakeholders Meeting on July 3, 2014. Leaders and members of our great Party, after an in-depth review of the events before, during and after the election arrived at some far-reaching decisions in the overall interest of the Party and the good people of Ekiti State. The meeting resolved as follows: 1. That we pass a vote of confidence in the leadership of Dr. Kayode Fayemi, who is the Governor of Ekiti State, judging by his sterling leadership qualities and unprecedented achievements recorded since his assumption of office. We are delighted and fulfilled that the candidate of our Party in the last governorship election has not been accused of non-performance rather the conclusion is that he did very well and has justified the mandate given to him by the electorate. 2. That we also want to state without any fear of equivocation that there is a strong harmonious relationship between our Party, the APC and the APC-led administration in Ekiti State. We want to say that the gesture of the Governor as a statesman in congratulating the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who was returned elected by INEC, went a long way in reducing tension and preventing our dear state from descending into chaos and anarchy. The Governor took the step to save lives given the level of harassment, intimidation, militarization and victimization of innocent citizens by the military and armed policemen brought to the state for the election. This was in consonance with His Excellencys philosophy not to be Governor over dead bodies and the Party is not, in any way, opposed to the Governors gesture, which is a proof that he genuinely loves the people and cares for their well being. 3. That we want to make it abundantly clear that the mandate given to Dr. Kayode Fayemi is a mandate of four years which expires on October 15, 2014 and the new government in Ekiti State commences on October 16, 2014 and between now and that date, Dr. Kayode Fayemi still remains the Governor of Ekiti State and our Party, the APC, the ruling party in Ekiti State. We, therefore, advise those that may not understand this elementary calculation which is constitutional to please desist from making statements capable of causing confusion and disrupting the orderliness of the state. 4. That the civil service is an institution which should not be dragged into murky waters of politics. So, any undue utterances from politicians should not sway the norms, ethics and professionalism of the civil service as an institution that is insulated from partisan politics. 5. That the Party is also seriously aware that the election, which was held in Ekiti State on June 21, 2014, was part of the landmines that have been planted against Nigerians ahead of the 2015 general election which have now been detonated in Ekiti State. But we want to say that it was a very bad experiment which the Party in due course will address constitutionally and accordingly. 6. That we also want to use this medium to appeal to members and teeming supporters of our great Party and the vast majority of our people within and outside Ekiti State to be law-abiding and go about their normal duties knowing fully well that this temporary setback and pyrrhic victory of the opposition will soon be halted after the final exposure would have been made. 7. That we remain resolute in defence of our Party and the good people of our dear state, Ekiti State. Signed: High Chief Olajide Awe, Interim Chairman, All Progressives Congress (APC), Ekiti State.
