OUR STORY July 18-July 20, 1995 Just an ordinary day at work during the summer between my sophomore and junior year at Carson Newman. Honestly I was terribly bored and asked if I could leave 15 minutes early. On my way home from Knoxville I normally got stuck in traffic on Edgemore Rd. next to the steam plants but this day the roads were clear. Breaking my all time record getting home from work I drove down Delta Street and began to pull in my parents driveway. I noticed a car beginning to back out so I parked on the street and began to walk across the road to my house. The ladies in the car at our house got out of the car. It was my aunt Cheryl Mayes and her friend Ms. Donna Hall Leon. I had never met Donna before but by the time I walked across the street she was already trying to match me up with this girl Shanda. Doing my best to be nice I thanked her for the the compliments she was throwing my way and took the phone number of this girl Shanda. I had no intentions of calling this girl. What would be the point. I was headed back to college in a month. My younger cousins came over that night and were telling me about this girl that they had already met and were pushing me to call her. On a whim I did just that. I called her and when she came to the phone(only a home phone back then so her mom answered and yelled for her to come to the phone) I began to get very nervous. My cousins were giggling in the background and I felt like I was in junior high again. We agreed to meet the next day at her work. I lay in bed that night thinking about getting off work early and having no traffic on the way home and the fact that my aunt and her friend were literally pulling out of the driveway when I got home. The chances of all that happening in just that way really gave me chill bumps. I know its silly but what if something like this means God is truly connecting the two of us together. Yeah thats silly, we havent even met yet. So I shook that idea from my head and went to sleep. To be continued....
