OUSTED MAYOR LEAVES OFFICE WITH MANY QUESTIONS - TopicsExpress

OUSTED MAYOR LEAVES OFFICE WITH MANY QUESTIONS UNANSWERED Over the past 10 months, The Riverside Reader reached out to Port Allen Mayor Deedy Slaughter on many occasions via email. In each and every instance, the mayor failed to respond to our letters. In the aftermath of the recall election, which passed by nearly a 14-point margin, we again wanted to give mayor the opportunity to get her side of the story out. Below are the contents of that final email from the Riverside Reader to the recalled mayor of Port Allen, Deedy Slaughter: Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013 Mayor: You have said many times as mayor that you love people and that you love everybody, so I know you love me too. As you prepare to leave office, I want to personally thank you for all of the new friendships your brief tenure as mayor has helped me to build. I believe many of our readers- some of whom are your supporters- would like to know whats next for you. I know youve had some time to think about that since the voters in Port Allen made their voices heard this past weekend. I would appreciate an answer today to these questions: As mayor, what do you think your legacy will be? As mayor, what do you consider to be your greatest accomplishment? As mayor, you have repeatedly blamed the council and the media- even going so far as to single me out in a council meeting- but you have never once acknowledged any faults of your own. Having had a few days since the election to reflect back over the past 11 months, do you still feel like you were the innocent victim of a witch hunt? Do you have any regrets about anything youve done as mayor? Do you feel any sympathy for any of the five women who quit their jobs at City Hall to take lower-paying jobs or quit with no job prospects at all? After you leave office next week, what do you see in your personal and professional future? While you have a poor record of responding to my prior emails since you took office, I fully expect-- that as a woman who loves all people-- that you will not let this day pass without acknowledging this email. I look forward to your prompt reply, John Michael Lockhart Publisher The Riverside Reader 570 N Jefferson Ave Port Allen, LA 70767 Office: 225-336-0749
