OUTLOOK THROUGH NEXT WEEK: Click each individual picture for a caption on what it represents. The pictures are of 500mb geopotential heights. We use this to approximate the height of the pressure gradient. Since cooler air is more dense than warm air, it causes pressure surfaces to be lower. Warm air allows pressure to be higher. So, that means we can use geopotential height values to help show temperature trends (warmer or cooler). SUMMARY: Cool weather this weekend, followed by a gradual warming trend next week (highs in the 60s). The overall pattern, outside of a day or two of showers, favors precipitation BELOW normal over the next 10 days. No significant cold blasts are seen until around Halloween... possibly early November.
