OUTREACH NOTICE Northern Rockies Regional Fire Training & Workforce Development Program Specialist (GS-0301-12) Region 1 Forest Service, Northern Rockies Training Center (NRTC) will soon be advertising to fill a permanent full-time Fire Training position in Missoula, Montana. THE POSITION The incumbent will be responsible for oversight and management of the training center. The Northern Rockies Training Center is responsible for interagency Wildland fire and prescribed fire training, providing training in all incident management and response as well as leadership courses. Primarily the NRTC focuses on 300 & 400 level courses as well as some select 200 level and National level courses. In addition, the center hosts a variety of additional training courses and workshops. The Fire Training Specialist is responsible for the development, coordination and delivery of courses at the NRTC. In addition, this position supervises 4-5 interagency training specialist and staff support. This position also has duties as the Workforce Development specialist for the Region 1 Forest Service employees. Works independently with Forest within the region to ensure the Incident Qualification and Certification System (IQCS) database is current and up-to-date based upon current training records and task book completions. Use database to determine current workforce capability and future workforce needs. This position is also the Forest Service Regional Training Officer as well as the Geographic Area Training Representative. Travel- Incumbent will be required to travel 2-3 times per year for National level meetings; more frequent travel may be required within the Geographic Area to support field units. What we are looking for in a Candidate: This position operates in a fully integrated interagency environment and provides professional training services to several federal, state and local government agencies. The position requires the ability to design and develop a professional level training delivery system across a large geographical area. Have experience in upper level course development, delivery and coordination. Experience managing people and working with a multiple of agencies to meet their needs. Be innovative and creative, we are looking for someone to look for new cost-effective ways of delivering professional level training courses across a large geographic area that serves multiple agencies. DUTY STATION SPECIFICS Northern Region, Forest Service, Fire & Aviation Management located at the Aerial Fire Depot (AFD), Missoula, MT. The AFD is located about 7 miles west of downtown Missoula, MT and is adjacent to the Missoula International Airport. ABOUT THE AREA Missoula, Montana draws people from diverse backgrounds.
