OVER 245 TRADERS AT A MARKET IN LUKULU UNANIMOUSILY RESOLVE TO STOP PAYING LEVY TO BRE Over 245 traders and shop-owners at old market have unanimously resolved to stop paying levy to Namayula Barotse Royal Establishment (BRE) of Senior Chief Anang’anga Imwiko of Lukulu district in Western Province. In an interview with ZANIS in Lukulu, Old market ADHOC committee Chairperson Frank Maliti says annually the BRE in Lukulu collects about 581 thousand 520 kwacha, the money that was supposed to be channeled to the development of the district. Mr. Maliti who trades as New Agents Enterprise in the area said since the BRE grabbed the only gazetted old market that was built by Mongu Rural Council in the UNIP government from the Lukulu District Council in 2002 it has lamentably failed to develop and improve sanitation in the market. He has since appealed to the PF government through Lukulu District Council to speed up the taking over of the old market and its surroundings so that the council starts the smooth running of the market in an accountable manner. And Lukulu District Commissioner Precious Muyenga has appealed to all the traders and marketeers in the district not to panic as government was doing everything possible to harmonize the matter….
