OVPD holds its 2014 Awards Banquet Oro Valley, Ariz. (May 5, 2014) – On April 25, 2014, the Oro Valley Police Department (OVPD) held its awards banquet honoring officers, Explorers, volunteers and citizens who have provided exceptional service to the Oro Valley community. Following is a list of awards and recipients. LIFE SAVING AWARD – For being directly responsible for the saving of a human life that, without direct intervention, would have likely perished. Recipients: Lead Police Officer Marshall Morris, Officer Kristofer Knapp, Officer Donald Topar and Officer Brian Carr CHIEF OF POLICE UNIT COMMENDATION For the OVPD Criminal Investigations Unit having accomplished goals and objectives that have made a positive impact through exemplary teamwork and distinguished performance. Recipients: Sergeant Dean Nesbitt, Detective Buddy Novak, Detective Wes Helvig, Detective Megan Carr, Detective Deren Jackson, Detective Mike Cruce and Detective Zach Young MEDAL OF MERIT For displaying conspicuous personal gallantry, with full knowledge of the level of risk involved, and for going beyond the call of duty in accomplishing a specific police mission. Recipients: Sergeant Rick Trevizo and Officer Brian Kleinberg OFFICERS OF THE YEAR For providing meritorious and recognizable contributions to the department that clearly sets them apart from their peers. 2012 Recipient: Lead Motor Officer Jeff Thomas 2013 Recipient: Officer Matthew Roth VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR For providing meritorious and recognizable contributions to the department within 2013 that clearly set him apart from his peers. Recipient: John Hickey CITIZEN OF THE YEAR For his commitment to the Chief’s Advisory Committee, Project Graduation and building partnerships between the Police Department and the community, and for being a tireless supporter of the Town of Oro Valley. Recipient: Stan Winetrobe EXPLORER OF THE YEAR For providing meritorious and recognizable contributions to the department in 2013 that clearly set him apart from his peers. Recipient: Mason Solberg MEDAL OF VALOR For displaying conspicuous personal gallantry, with full knowledge of the level of risk involved, in accomplishing a specific police mission against criminal activity.
