OWERRI CITY GATE CONTRACTORS LAMENT OKOROCHAS WICKEDNESS, PLEADS - TopicsExpress

OWERRI CITY GATE CONTRACTORS LAMENT OKOROCHAS WICKEDNESS, PLEADS FOR IMMEDIATE INTERVENTION It is over two years now since the abrupt termination of the Owerri City Gates project; one of the first beautification and security programs of the Imo State Government under Governor Rochas Okorocha, which the Governor made Imolites believe was to be concluded in ecord time as a way of improving the state of security across the capital territory. It is not news that those gates are still at various stages of abandonment. However, what may surprise compassionate Imolites is that none of the contractors who handled this project has been paid any dime since the inception of the project. My investigations reveal that the contract which was duly awarded and backed up with contract documents got the direct approval of the Governor, who directed the then Mayor of Owerri zone; High Chief Uche Njoku Obi. According to one of the contractors who claimed that he had to access credit worth over six million Naira from banks in order to fund this project, but is yet to receive a dime from the government. According to him, after much protest from over one hundred of them who are involved in this contract, the Governor set up a committee, headed by his son-in-law; Uche Nwosu to investigate and their claims and determine how much each of the contractors should be paid, based on the level of work done by each contractor. The committee which was said to have concluded its work since December, 2012 and handed its findings and recommendations to Uche Nwosu for onward transmission to the Governor, is yet to receive any word from the its chairman or the Governor. My source revealed that some of his fellow contractors have already died as a result of heart attack which could be traced to the severe pressures mounted on them by those they accessed credit from for the job. A particularly pathetic story is that of one such contractors who lost his wife to a curable ailment, because he was running away from his creditors, hence, was not available to provide the necessary care required by his wife. He confided in me that most of these contractors are either on the run or suffering untold hardship due to Rochas inhumanity to them. He pleaded that well meaning Imolites should speedily intervene and plead with the Governor to save some of them from untimely death, by immediately clearing off their debts so that they could begin to gather the pieces of their lives and move ahead. ******************************************************************** It is a most disheartening height of wickedness that a Governor could be owing ordinary and hardworking Imolites such debts, yet, boasting that he could provide a trailer load of money to counter whatever amount the PDP may want to offer. It is also annoying that our Governor could be junketing from one State capital to the other in search of fun, with our money while thousands of Imolites are gnashing their teeth in pains as a result of his wickedness. Let me remind my Governor of the Biblical directive that a laborer deserves his wages and it amounts to inviting Gods curse upon yourself if you withhold the pay that is due to a laborer. Please remind my Governor that there is still God and He steadily hearkens to the lamentations of his persecuted children. IMO GA ADI MMA OZO!
