OWG on SDGs concludes with outcome document After 18 months, the Open Working Group on Sustainable Development Goals has produced its final report, which contains 17 proposed goals for the consideration of the United Nations General Assembly. The goals are as follows: Proposed goal 1. End poverty in all its forms everywhere Proposed goal 2. End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture Proposed goal 3. Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages Proposed goal 4. Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote life-long learning opportunities for all Proposed goal 5. Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls Proposed goal 6. Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all Proposed goal 7. Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all Proposed goal 8. Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all Proposed goal 9. Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation Proposed goal 10. Reduce inequality within and among countries Proposed goal 11. Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable Proposed goal 12. Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns Proposed goal 13. Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts Proposed goal 14. Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development Proposed goal 15. Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss Proposed Goal 16. Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels Proposed goal 17. Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development Each proposed goal is accompanied by a set of targets intended to measure progress towards the acheivement of these objectives. Next Steps: This process is far from over. Below is an overview of the forthcoming events and proceedings, which will lead to the adoption of the post-2015 framework: President of the General Assemblys High Level Stock-Taking Event (8-9 September) PGA will provide a summary of the post-2015 processes and consultations, which will feed into the UN Secretary Generals synthesis report on the post-2015 development agenda. In particular, the purpose of the is event is to: Reflect on key messages from all high-level events, thematic debates and formal dialogues of the 67th session of the General Assembly. Discuss key outcomes from Rio+20 processes, including the Open Working Group on Sustainable Development Goals, the High Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development and the Intergovernmental Committee of Experts on Sustainable Development Financing, as well as bring attention to external processes that have influenced the post-2015 development agenda. UN Secretary Generals Synthesis Report (By November 2014) Secretary General will synthesise the full range of inputs on the post-2015 development agenda for the consideration of the General Assembly. This report will provide the starting point for the intergovernmental negotiations. Intergovernmental negotiations (September 2014-August 2015) Member State-driven negotiations leading to the adoption of the post-2015 development agenda, which will likely include one set of global goals to eradicate poverty in the context of sustainable development. This process will culminate in a high level summit in September 2015.
