OYO STATE SCHOOL OF HYGIENE, UNCONDUCIVE ENVIRONMENT FOR LEARNING AND A CITADEL OF AN ATTACK ON DEMOCRATIC RIGHTS. As this institution recently clocks 80 years, there is nothing to point to as an improvement. The School of Hygiene, under the control of Oyo state Ministry of Health is one of the tertiary institutions across the country where both the living and learning conditions of students are sub-standard and there is no record of significant improvement in negation of what is obtainable today in some institutions. Unfortunately, this is not the case before. In fact, situation of things in the school is far worse than before. For instance, inadequate of hostel accommodation, limited number of classrooms, inadequate water supply and limited number of lecturers, most especially the halls of residence are in very disgraceful and deplorable state. Moreover, drinking water is not regular, pollution of water and air by the waste discharge of the FAN Milk Plc. This terrible condition explains why students always exposed to diseases and illness thus adversely affect their academic output. It is under this scenario, the school management in collaboration with the state Government still compels the students to pay huge amount of money as fees. The students are compelled to pay non-refundable amount of money in their first year ranges from #65000 to #75000 before fully admitted and the payment does not guarantee the students of full admission into the school because there is pre-admission examination called (weeding examination) where seeking-admission students of like 300 in number can be reduced to 50. After the full payment of #65,000-#75,000, 50 students out of more than 300 students might be admitted leaving the remaining students fates undecided. The mobilization of HND2 students for NYSC is still there unresolved. While many other Monotechnic students are going for NYSC, reverse is the case in Oyo State School of Hygiene. Aside this, the management and the State Government are using all means to exploit students of less-privilegedas a result of outrageous fees being imposed on them. This is truly a graphic reflection of the Government and this same Government that has been regarded as the most progressive in South-West, but making standard of living of students of the State School of Hygiene unbearable. This is to finally use this medium to call the attention of the State Government, Senator Abiola Ajimobi to see to the plight of the students of Oyo State School of Hygiene and also in generalty seeing education in Oyo State as more imperative because Students of today will become the leaders of tomorrow. Nigerias future can only be bright if qualitative education is given to the leaders of tommorow. Jointly Signed by: Comrade Ismael Taiwo (NANS JCC PRO, Oyo State. AND Comrade Akande Daniel B. NANS JCC Treasurer, Oyo State/Student leader, Oyo State School of Hygiene.
