Los Angeles Angels activated third baseman Chris Nelson from the 15-day disabled list. Nelson has been sidelined since August 28 due to a strained hamstring. Toronto Blue Jays LHP Brett Cecil has been shut down for the remainder of the season with elbow discomfort. Cecil has a 2.82 ERA in 60 2/3 innings. Kansas City Royals place first baseman Carlos Pena will miss the rest of the season after undergoing an emergency appendectomy. Pena finishes the season with a .207 batting average with eight home runs & 25 RBI over 280 at-bats. Tampa Bay Rays sign outfielder Freddy Guzman to a Minor League contract. Guzman has not played in the Majors since 2009 with the New York Yankees.
