Duffy has a "very mild flexor strain" but has not been shut down for the rest of the season. The Royals called up RHP Yordano Ventura. Houston Astros placed catcher Jason Castro on the 15-day DL, effectively shutting him down for the remainder of the season. Castro is dealing with discomfort in his right knee. Los Angeles Angels activated third baseman Chris Nelson from the 15-day disabled list. Nelson has been sidelined since August 28 due to a strained hamstring. Toronto Blue Jays LHP Brett Cecil has been shut down for the remainder of the season with elbow discomfort. Cecil has a 2.82 ERA in 60 2/3 innings. Kansas City Royals place first baseman Carlos Pena will miss the rest of the season after undergoing an emergency appendectomy. Pena finishes the season with a .207 batting average with eight home runs & 25 RBI over 280 at-bats. Tampa Bay Rays sign outfielder Freddy Guzman to a Minor League contract. Guzman has not played in the Majors since 2009 with the New York Yankees.
