Obamacare’s defenders keep saying, “If you don’t like it, why don’t you propose something better?!” Okay, let’s do that…Over the weekend, I spoke to three doctors who decided Obamacare’s paperwork and government interference in their practices were the last straw. They’ve all begun innovative new alternatives to insurance. For instance, patients pay the doctor direct, anywhere from $10 a month for kids up to $100 for seniors, and get unlimited access to the clinic and services at cost. One told me a cholesterol test is $90 through insurance. He charges what it really costs: $3. Patients are happy and saving money. Doctors are making more, and can concentrate on medicine, not bureaucracy. One doctor told me the average physician spends 22 percent of his time on paperwork. If all doctors could eliminate that, it would free up enough hours to equal 165,000 more doctors. He’s even making house calls again! The solution to fixing medicine could lie in the past: just pay the doctor yourself and get government out of it. So naturally, the government’s solution: more government.
