Mathena, 78, of Emporia, Kansas, died Thursday, July 18, 2013 at Newman Regional Health in Emporia. Betty F. Rouse was born October 11, 1934 in Little Creek, Kentucky, the daughter of Judge and Omoa Rouse. She worked in housekeeping in area nursing homes and has been retired for 20 years. Betty married Jo Bargo and he preceded her in death. She then married Donald G. Mathena on May 8, 2005 in Lawrence, Kansas. He survives of the home. Other survivors include: son, Laramy Joe Bargo of Baesweiler, Germany; stepson, Donny Mathena and wife Teresa of Hartford, Kansas; stepdaughter, Wanda and husband Fred White of Hamilton, Kansas; grandson, Michael Bargo; several step-grandchildren; step-nieces and nephews; and step great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, James Rouse; and stepdaughter, Sherry Harris. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home in Emporia. Dr. Leonard Wagner of the Church of God of Prophecy in Emporia will be officiating. Interment will follow in Fowler Cemetery, southeast of Emporia. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday evening, July 22, 2013 from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Memorial contributions to Newman Regional Health Auxiliary may be sent in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.
