Oboe Reeds What a racket !!!! Jones no longer makes SOFT Oboe Reeds. Just Med-Soft, and Med-Hard. So,... I went today and bought 2 SOFT Oboe Reeds, ( by a Maker that I wont name here ), so that I can continue working on my experimental Oboe project. I looked at all 5 that they had, and I choose the 2 that looked similar. I bought 2 so I could see if they were consistent, and also so I didnt make any changes to my instrument based on just 1 particular Reed. The 1st Reed played Great. The 2nd Reed didnt play at all. It didnt even Crow. There is no way to test a Reed before you buy it, and once you buy it and test it at home, you cant return it. Even inexpensive Reeds like I bought are $15.00 each. So I paid $30.00,.... got only 1 working Reed,... and I still dont know if this is what this brand of Reed is usually like, or if I bought the only one that works correctly. Im in the wrong business, I should be making Reeds. No, you cant test it. No, you cant return it. Oh, it doesnt work at all ? Sorry,... Would you like to buy another one? Wow, nice business model, No Risk. I need to Design and Sell an Oboe Reed Tester. Something that you can bring into the store and test the Oboe Reeds with. It would have to be able to test the Reeds Dry, for a basic Go / No Go , Crow pitch. But I think Ill even keep the Oboe Reed Business model ; Oh, your Oboe Reed Tester doesnt work .... Sorry,.. Would you like to buy another one ?
