Observation: What is a MAN to do? It may just be me but.....it - TopicsExpress

Observation: What is a MAN to do? It may just be me but.....it seems to be open season on Blacks in general, and on our youth, specifically. How many news stories must we read/see where an UNARMED CHILD is gunned down before we act? What will it take for us to DEMAND fair treatment and equal justice? What can we do? Is the correct approach the one associated with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.? Non-violent civil disobedience? Bloodied but unbowed? Do we march to show unity, determination, and perseverance until our cries can no longer be ignored? Do we stand before our persecutors and declare, Enough!? Do we have the resolve to put ourselves in harms way to achieve our goals? Dr. King did. And they killed him for it. Maybe the best approach is the one associated with Malcolm X? A more direct, by any means necessary route to justice? Do we arm ourselves against those that would do us harm for no other reason than the color of our skin? Do we espouse Black supremacy, scoff at integration, and denounce the efforts of those who dont have the courage to fight their oppresors, rejecting the philosophy of non-violence? Malcolm X did. He was killed too. So here we are fourty-some odd years later. But has anything really changed? Oh sure, we make more money, live in better homes and drive fancier cars, but are we LIVING better? We are still profiled. We are still stereotyped. We are still denied access to some areas. We are still given substandard educational tools and then denied access to the better colleges and universities which precludes us from getting that job that helps us achieve the American Dream (insert laugh here). A simple traffic stop can still result in DEATH (cancel that laugh). Thats right. In 2014, flashing lights can still make us think, Oh, lawdy! Dere go da police!. What IS a man to do?!?! If youve read this far anticipating an answer, Im afraid I have to disappoint you. Im clueless. You see, because there have been numerous Martins and Malcolms since then, yet we are still dying at an obscene rate. And while I would love to blame it all on the white man, it would be grossly hypocritical considering the way we treat each other. So heres my best guess at a solution. Combine a little of both approaches. March when we need to march. Assemble when we need to assemble. Let it be known in no uncertain terms that we CAN NOT allow this to continue if we hope to survive as a race. If your current elected official disagrees or insists that we just need to be patient (as if we havent waited long enough), vote his/her ass out of there! At the same time, show that we are prepared AND WILLING to do whatever it takes and declare our right on this earth to be a man, to be a human being, to be respected as a human being, to be given the rights of a human being in this society, on this earth, in this day, which we intend to bring into existence by any means necessary.. OR, we can sit by and do nothing .....until it touches us or someone we love which, at the rate its going, I can guarantee it will. So I dont have a clear answer but Im willing to listen to any and all ideas, Cause we damn well better start doing something or there may not be enough of us left to do anything.
