Observations from our Pacific Northwest roadtrip ... 1) Theres a LOT of water in the Columbia River and the Puget Sound! 2) Not much water in Lake Shasta! 3) The Eel River is about as wide as my kitchen table in some places and mossing up in others from stagnation. 4) Dont try to pump your own gas in Oregon - no such thing as self-serve. 5) Tillamook Cheese Visitors Center is a madhouse and a real CASH COW! 6) Washington & Oregon have the most coffee/espresso stops per capita of any planet known to man! 7) They still have a BIG timber industry in Washington and a bit smaller in Oregon. Would NOT happen in CA! 14) Damn theyve got a LOT of bridges! And a LOT of big creeks and rivers too! 15) Ive never driven so much 25-45MPH in my life! Its all about the tourists! 16) Loleta Cheese Factory is still a hidden gem. 17) The Olympic National Park offers it all from alpine vistas, dense forest, rain forest to tidal pools and rocky beaches. 18) Why do people take babies and kids in a papoose in a 1.5 mile cave with 20+ sets of 3-4 boulder obstacles and 5-8- free-climb walls? 19) Astoria, OR - 60F; Gold Beach, OR - 56F; Ferndale, CA -75F; Willits, CA - 97F; The Valley - 104F - enough said. 20) The Pacific Coast is GORGEOUS! 21) There are definite cultural differences between OR, WA & CA. 22) Take a ferry ride on the Puget Sound. 23) Theyve got more microbreweries than Gallo has grapes. 24) If all else fails, order clam chowder. 25) Port Angeles, WA - a ferry ride away from Canada. 26) Best Western Friends & Family and Gold Crown Club - thank you! 27) Dutch Bros.
