Obviously Im new to the group and have run into a delicate situation that Im sure many of you have encountered and wonder how you handled it. On my direct linage the only thing I knew when I started looking was that the family was originally from Virginia and were horse thieves. From that humble bit of knowledge I have ascertained that I am, in fact, descended fro an original III%er. (Im one of the newest SAR members now!!) Now the problem. My wife has a very large family replete with stories of ancestors who served, who were given land grants as a reward, etc. Unfortunately, the family history as been a wee bit, ahh, embellished over the years. How have you handled it?
