Obviously technique is important in weightlifting and in this - TopicsExpress

Obviously technique is important in weightlifting and in this video the lifters are always aware of what theyre doing. Ilyin gives some guidance to the bloke hes training with etc. This is quickly assimilated though, not agonised over. A quick instruction to shrug a bit more, whatever. Yesterday one of my lifters at Queen Marys Uni improved his terchnique by just moving faster at the top of the pull. No complicated instructions or naming of muscle groups to be activated - just pull the bar hard and get under it fast. Its also pretty obvious how strong Illyin is. Throwing 130, 140, 160kg about in various snatch balance, power jerk derivatives. Very impressive and not technically difficult. Hes extremely solid (no wobbling about) and powerful. In my experience, being strong under the bar is a result of the volume of work youve done. Lots of variety of assistance exercises is great for developing this type of supportive strength (for want of a better term?). Train hard, make technical corrections but dont obsess over them and the best thing you can learn from this video of an all time great lifter training is - enjoy yourself!
