Occupy Thanksgiving. What would it look like? What themes, stories and songs would it have? What creative things does your clan do? Its a perfect time to educate around some issues - environmental concerns, healthy food, poverty, homelessness, those without food seem perfect. Maybe highlight history, important movements, special events or important people. (Columbus, cough...) Indigenous Peoples Day? Thinking of copying some of the things I love about Passover, engaging the kids, a new Thanksgiving Plate, a Radical Haggadah and some other ceremonial accoutrements. What would be on it? What themes, stories of which struggles and songs would be in it? Ideas - Mole, purfect with turkey, a five star sauce, a traditional sauce from from Mexico, represents the high carbon, high environmental cost extraction of oil pumped out of the ground... . - Sparkling beverage, the gas represents fracking - Cranberry, red like blood...like no war... - Corn, GMO corn and GMO everything else - a vegan dish (every knows someone who doesnt eat meat.) , locally sourced, organic and fair trade - something from the garden, from our garden, from the community garden. - Locally produced organic food, ingredients wine & cider and discussing it during dinner.... - something hand made, reusable, recyclable like cute hand made napkins that look like quilts. Quilts that have stories.... Like the big quilt that represents all the people who died of AIDS. -placemats that you can draw on and that tell a story (see the pictures of the Passover Seder plates) -communal eating, sharing, Indeginous peoples land rights and how they are leading, in many ways, the fights against environmental destruction -Foods from other cultures - ones we are bombing maybe or where people are starving -Something wrapped likes its fast food - to represent fast food workers struggle for higher wages and struggle the right organize. - a menu, a decree rolled up like a scroll responding to something outrageous (so many choices here) like ridiculous Supreme Court rulings or attacks on woman rights... - medical cookies (enough said) - make feeding the pets part of dinner...everyone participates - Everyone goes for a walk (or rolls) in the neighborhood to say hi to everyone else, like Christmas Caroling. - Thanksgiving Bingo - dessert hummm Lots more...
