October 2 1978 - the New York Yankees beat the Boston Red Sox, 5-4, in the first-ever A.L. East playoff game to win the division. 1979 - the Pirates beat the Reds in game 1 of the NLCS. 1982 - it was COLD and overcast in Germany...so of course Dad takes us all out for a long walk to the base from Mehlingen. We get maybe a mile and a guy picks us up and takes us to Sembach. Interesting and memorable day. 1984 - Cubs 13 Padres 0 in game one, sunny day in Caledonia 1987 - this was actually the first time I ever saw the show Full House. 1988 - hey Sonya Walters - remember when we had lunch together after church in Boone-Vegas? 1991 - the Braves catch the Dodgers heading towards the weekend final series for both teams. 1992 - the day we moved into base housing at Keesler AFB 1993 - Braves beat the Rockies, Giants beat the Dodgers....and it all comes down to the last game of the season, baseballs last-ever pennant race 1996 - Braves beat Dodgers in game one of the NLDS; I was off work this particular day 1999 - in one of the wildest SEC games ever, Alabama shocks heavy favorite Florida, 40-39, in overtime to give the Gators their first defeat in the Swamp in five full seasons (36 games). 2004 - the day we came back home from Nashville 2010 - see later post, but Alabama drills Florida to look like a sure repeat national champion
