October 20th 2001: The Concert for New York City took place at Madison Square Garden. Many of the attendees were families and members of the New York Fire & Police Departments. Some of the artists that appeared included Paul McCartney, The Who, David Bowie, Elton John, Eric Clapton, Bon Jovi, James Taylor, Billy Joel and John Mellencamp. 1994: At a Bob Dylan concert at the Roseland Ballroom in New York City, Bruce Springsteen and Neil Young joined Dylan onstage for “Rainy Day Women #12 & #35” and “Highway 61 Revisited”. 1978: The Police kicked off their first North American tour at CBGB’s in New York City. They flew to New York on low cost tickets and carried their instruments as hand luggage. 1977: Lynyrd Skynyrd singer Ronnie Van Zant, guitarist Steve Gaines and backup singer Cassie Gaines were killed in a plane crash in Gillsburg, MS. Van Zant and Cassie Gaines were each 29 years old and Steve Gaines was 28 years old. 1976: Led Zeppelin’s movie The Song Remains the Same premiered at movie theaters in the U.S. 1974: Former Animals singer Eric Burdon & his wife Rose celebrated the birth of their first child, a daughter they named Mirage. Shortly afterward they renamed her Alexandria. 1973: The Rolling Stones reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart for one week with “Angie” which was their seventh number one single in the U.S. 1969: John Lennon released his second solo single “Cold Turkey” which went on to reach number thirty on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart. 1965: The Beatles recorded “We Can Work It Out” at Abbey Road Studios in London. The song would also be covered by Deep Purple, Stevie Wonder & Humble Pie.
