October 21,2006 began with a tragedy Hykiem Coney had been shot.My son was devastated he didnt know if his childhood friend was going to make it he was at NCMC in ICU. It was a bright sunny day home coming day. The homecoming parade was nice me and my little dog watched until the end. I took her home to come back to attend to enjoy. Only to arrive to frantic teenagers yelling for me to pull my car over the looks on their faces embedded in my mind I park and got out the car and my living nightmare began. Kail Ferro was shot and killed. He was lying in a yard. Even now the Erie feeling strikes my heart Hykiem Coney was in critical condition and Kail Ferro was dead. Standing there comforting the young people his mother inside awaiting news. Keeping the children calm who didnt understand the crime scene process. Then they removed the body that pain still with me now my young Beast gone I watched as his his family members went to where he had fallen his mother with a stick and coffee picking up his body matter. I had to be strong for them all. I had to take my son to the hospital to see Hykiem Coney it was packed. His head was wrapped with the bandages he wasnt conscious the pain of violence. Two shootings two young men that I knew personally one dead one clinging to life. The morgue, funeral home, street memorial holding every one down. Then the shot to my heart 10/25/06 Hykiem Coney succumbed to his injuries they both were dead. My God the pain today is the same as that day. Today I remember all the times we had. Taking Hykiem to get his books to begin college, kail Ferro coming to my wedding suited up telling my husband he is watching him take care of his other mother. Today I cry off and on I know they are at PEACE. I continue to fight this fight. More have been taken. This plague. To Hykiem Coney and Kail Ferro I continue to fight this EPEDIMIC of VIOLENCE sleep in HEAVENLY PARADISE My sons from another mother. To Teresa Theresa Coney Evans and Denise Ferro thank you for allowing me to be in your sons lives. May God touch both your families as the pain of losing a child gives to you Gods healing. Never forgotten forever remembered always love Valerie McFadden.
