October 26. On this date in 1964 - fifty years ago today - rockabilly great Carl Perkins paid a visit to a Beatles recording session. George Harrison was such a Carl Perkins fan that he at one point had taken to calling himself Carl Harrison. The Beatles had recorded numerous Carl Perkins tunes: Matchbox, Everybodys Trying to Be My Baby, Sure to Fall, Glad All Over, Lend Me Your Comb. During this dates session, Ringo called Carl Mr. Perkins. Carl - who was the ripe old age of 32 at the time - replied, Son, I wish youd just call me Carl. Mr. Perkins is my daddy. The Beatles recorded Carls Honey Dont while Carl himself was present in the studio. youtube/watch?v=1jCdD8pSODU
