October is American Archives Month. Throughout this month, well be highlighting our archival collections, information about Holocaust-era archives, and tips for your archival research. Until 2000, the Israelitische Kultusgemeinde Wien (IKG; Jewish Community Vienna) thought their wartime records had been lost. During a routine inspection of one of its older buildings that year, the Jewish Community Vienna discovered a cache of approximately 500,000 Holocaust-era pages of reports, letters, emigration and financial documents, deportation lists, card files, books, photographs, maps, and charts detailing the final years of what was once the largest German-speaking Jewish community in Europe. Learn how the Holocaust Museum helped to make this archive accessible once its records had been rediscovered.
