October is Rett Syndrome Awareness month and I have been - TopicsExpress

October is Rett Syndrome Awareness month and I have been struggling to come up with something to share. But after looking at some old videos and photos this evening, I thought that a before and after pic may help those that arent quite sure what Rett Syndrome really is and how it impacts our daughter as well as many other girls/women just like her. In the first picture, Hannah is feeding herself birthday cake on her first birthday. At a year old she was able to crawl, sit up, feed herself, play with toys, and could say a few words. The other picture is on Hannahs second birthday where she is being fed her cake by Denay. At around 13 months, Hannahs regression stage began. Over the course of the next 11 months, Hannah lost her ability to do all of the things that I listed in the last paragraph. Other symptoms of Rett Syndrome also became apparent during this time such as constipation, teeth grinding, hand wringing, etc. While there are many things that Hannah is not able to do right now, we are still very hopeful for her future. Clinical trials are in process. Hannahs strength and endurance has improved dramatically through her regular therapies. Weve become part of the most loving community we could have ever envisioned. And most importantly we have a God of miracles. So my only ask is that you help raise awareness by sharing this post. Maybe by sharing her story we can get closer to realizing a cure. Thanks and God Bless, Sam
