Oedipus Rex has been one of my favourite texts. Toshio Matsumotos - TopicsExpress

Oedipus Rex has been one of my favourite texts. Toshio Matsumotos adaptation of the Sophocles classic will stay in my heart for a long, long time. Perhaps forever. The queer Oedipus-figure (Eddie), and the dramatic reverse in the incest-murder plot (Eddie kills his mother, and indulges in incest with his father), are as unsettling as they are brilliantly portrayed and executed. I remember watching Pasolinis Edipo re a year back, but that film did not impress me very well. Matsumotos film, on other hand, not only represents the Oedipus story in a different way , but also is an instance of an experimental film-making bringing together various forms and contrives. (Much thanks and love, Anwita ! :) )
