Of all the member countries of OPEC, Nigeria (and perhaps Venezuela) is whose development before the discovery of crude oil was better than after the discovery. The pinnacle of this backwardness is vividly summed in the last sixteen (16) years of the history of Nigeria. We have been losing the little developments we used to even have at an exponential rate ever since crude oil began to be part of Nigerias revenue generator. What a shame that what was supposed to be a cause of blessings has been made to become a curse by greedy and unpatriotic beneficiaries!!! Take a brief look at the smallest of the OPEC member countries in order to have a clear understanding of my assertion. Yet some people in this country who, apparently think using their stomachs, are shouting at the top of their voices that we should continue the same old chaotic road that has taken us nowhere but 100 years backward. A road that led to nowhere near greatness for the collective majority except for the thieving few. We need to begin to sincerely think as human beings who have a future at stake.
