Of all the things I learned as a teenager about relationships, I remember one clear guideline, dont let a man hit you. Knowing what I know now, my guidelines were clearly lacking. I recall hearing It is never okay for a man to hit a woman but I dont recall hearing It is never okay for a woman to hit a man, in fact this is something we still dont stress to our youth in my opinion. It is easy to find a tv show where a woman hits a man and it is justified but the other way around and it is wrong. Domestic violence is not a one gender sided crime and being a male victim can have more hardships/obstacles to overcome. Awareness and early education to teens are important, as well as old school thinkers, teaching that violence from either gender is not okay and no one should stay in an abusive relationship, regardless who the aggressor is a necessity!
