Of late i am increasingly getting concerned over the sudden surge or increase in the number of bishops and archbishops in the pentecostal fold! The funny manner of some of their clerical dresses and attires leaves little to be desired let alone the authenticity of their mandate and ecclesiasitical functions! I am beginning to see most of them as stooges of politicians or at worse their errand men! When for instance a bishop is supposedly consecrated by another bishop of another denomination, to whom is he going to pay allegiance? Biblically, the apostles, specifically chosen by Christ from his many disciples are the first bishops who were mandated to continue the mission of Christ! Subsequent bishops then are the successors of the apostles. In the catholic, Anglican, Orthodox and main line protestant churches, bishops are overseers of a diocese comprising of a number of churches in a given and well defined jurisdiction! How comes founders or owners of one church are fast becoming bishops and archbishops? These are people who are often found around the corridors of power doing the biddings of politicians rather than the work of God! Do you have to be a bishop before you do Gods work? Men and women of God let us take it easy and not be blinded by the pursuit of worldly glories!
