Of the three ways builders structure their contracts; each of them - TopicsExpress

Of the three ways builders structure their contracts; each of them can be open or closed book. That is; builders can share their subcontractors bills and his own fees in an itemized way with the homeowner, or only as a total. The only advantage I can see for the homeowner when using a closed book is that *possibly* the builder will absorb some minor cost increases if any are incurred over the course of the project. A disadvantage is that a dishonest builder would have an easier time hiding excessive markups. What advantages and disadvantages do you see open versus closed book?
