Off for my last workout at Heavyweights Training Center before - TopicsExpress

Off for my last workout at Heavyweights Training Center before hopping on a plane for Nationals for Masters PowerLifting. Never in my life did I ever honestly dream this would happen. Many years ago I RUINED my back with a sumo deadlift. It was like someone had shot me in the back. I was training at the old YMCA and going for a PB and got it about my knees....got stuck...kept fighting..and fighting..and fighting...and BANG.... I dropped in pain as the weight crashed to the floor with me. I lived across the street from the YMCA and had to be carried home where I lay in bed, in pain, for days. From that day on my training was never the same. I kept trying to train, but things just kept hurt, and I couldnt ever work around it. Squats, deads, anything like that was gone. All I could do was upper body. It was so bad that I remember the first year Danielle Rideout and I went to Las Vegas my back was that bad that after walking and travelling I had to lie in bed on my side for a full day because the pain was that brutal. Fast forward a few years. I went and studied from the best lower back people in the world. Dr. Stu McGill, Dean Somerset, Bret Contreras, Jason Ferruggia, and numerous others that are AMAZING wealths of knowledge on injuries, rehab and muscle imbalances. 2 years ago at a workshop in New Jersey at Jays Renegade Gym I couldnt even trap bar deadlift 225 lbs. Through proper training, improving mobility, improving strength and NEVER EVER EVER giving up I am back almost as strong as ever at 40 and off to compete at NATIONALS. Before I would have been happy to go a day without pain. THANK YOU to my mentors, my coaches and the smart people who helped me through this. I always say The Worst Things In Life Are The Best Things In Life, You Just Dont Know It Yet. I am grateful for team at HWTC, my training partners, our coaches and the amazing support we have. Our fitness family. I plan to give my best, leave it all there and no matter what happens I will be proud to compete, lift HeavyWeights and leave my best on the platform. Today I am very grateful. Overcome, Conquer, MASTER.
