Off the Beaten Path Wednesday! ‘Puglia’ is Italian for ‘Apulia’ – a region of Southern Italy – it forms the ‘heel’ of the boot on the map of Italy. The Puglia (South-Eastern Adriatic) coast of Italy is off the beaten path but is soon to be discovered. The area begins north of Bari continuing south around the heal of Italy along the Gulf of Taranto. Many small historic towns along the coast have marinas, some rocky beaches and some sandy beaches. Inland there are World Heritage Site towns with Puglia’s well-known Trulli homes, also known as “hobbit” homes.
