Offical Page Bilawal House President felicitates Jahangir Badar on getting Ph.D degree for research on Benazir Bhutto ISLAMABAD, Jul 4 (APP): President Asif Ali Zardari on Thursday felicitated Pakistan Peoples Party’s Senator Jahangir Badar on the award of Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D) degree in Pakistan Studies for his research thesis on Shaheed Benazir Bhutto as an iconic political leader. In his message, the President paid tributes to Jahangir Badar for his decades-long struggle for democracy under the leadership of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Mohatarma Benazir Bhutto. A notification issued by the Punjab University Wednesday declared Jahangir Badar to have passed the examination of the degree of Doctorate of Philosophy in Pakistan Studies after approval of his thesis titled ‘Political Leaders: A Case study of Benazir Bhutto’. Spokesperson Senator Farhatullah Babar quoting the President said the hallmark of an extra-ordinaril y towering leader was that everyone who came in touch with them also became extraordinary. Jahangir Badar has become extraordinary because of his association with and following in the footsteps of the most extraordinary leaders of our time, namely the Shaheed Bhuttos, he quoted the President as saying. The thesis is a saga of triumph and tragedy and of resistance and resilience of a woman who eventually triumphed over her adversaries through people’s power, perseverance and epic struggle This historic triumph was dramatized in the cryptic remarks at the time of oath-taking that she had avenged the execution of her father Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. “Seldom before a young woman had been so wronged and seldom before she had avenged so completely as Shaheed Benazir did when she took oath as Prime Minister in December 1988,” said President Zardari in his message. The President termed Shaheed Benazir a national treasure and an institution. She was an iconic leader who led the struggle for democracy with a tenacity of purpose that was matched only by her wisdom and vision. He said Benazir Bhutto would continue to inspire generations of democracy loving people to tread in her footsteps. Her life story will motivate academics, scholars and researchers to throw light on her multi-dimension al personality that eventually led to her phenomenal triumph while wading through the seas of resilience and resistance, he added. President Zardari said the Ph.D thesis of Jahangir Badar will serve as a valuable addition to the treasure house of material on the political life and achievements of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto. The President also expressed the hope that the award of doctorate to Jahangir Badar would inspire academics to carry out research in the life and struggle of all those who have waged heroic struggle for democracy and illumine the path of future generations. The thesis leading to the Ph.D is graphic account of the monumental resistance and resilience of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto from the time when her father was overthrown in 1977 and later judicially executed till 1988 when she became the Muslim’s world’s first and at the age of 35 the youngest female Prime Minister in the world. This twelve year period 1977-1988 saw a young woman catapulted into the rough and tumble of politics and wading through the agony of her father’s execution, brothers’ banishment into exile, mother’s incarceration and the hounding, lashing, imprisonment and hanging of political workers. As a witness and participant in the events of the time Jahangir Badar was himself lashed and imprisoned. The tumultuous 12 year period culminated into Benazir becoming the Prime Minister and taking oath from the man who loathed her and the Bhuttos and had incarcerated her husband on charges of corruption.
